ABOUT the book

What started out as a hobby of seeking out and taking photos of cabins resulted in a large collection of images. In 2015, the idea of sharing the collection with a wider audience came about. The hobby thus morphed into a dedicated book project.

Cabins of the Yukon is as a visual odyssey of the Yukon's rich tradition of cabins and other types of handbuilt houses and structures. This is largely a photography book that aims to portray the full spectrum of these buildings from abandoned mining and trappers’ cabins, to ones in use and in the process of being built. The book also features several interviews of people that have built cabins (and log houses) and those that live in them. The images selected intend to demonstrate the skill and resilience of those that built them and also to capture a sense of the Yukon's beauty and charm.

Cabins of the Yukon and Other Handbuilt Structures is published by Red Ramble House, Whitehorse, Yukon.
